Europe Family Trip (Day 3)

On the 3rd day, we were early for our train so we set down at this small shop for breakfast.

We bought the Bayern day ticket for group (up to 5 pax) from ticket machine and check the timing of the train. The schedule for the train looks like these on the boards at the station. Please be reminded to match the timing shown on the clock to your watch as the trains are very punctual.

We went to the platform to board the train from Munchen Hauptbahnhof/ central station to Fussen train station as we are heading to Neuschwanstein Castle.

When we arrived at Fussen train station, we still need to take bus 78 to reach the Castle ticket center. Bus tickets can be purchase from the bus driver, a return ticket will cost 2.30 Euros, however the ‘Bayernkarte’ is valid on the buses as well. If you have this, simply show the bus driver when boarding.

Tickets into the castles have to be reserved online; Neuschwanstein Castle tickets at least 2 days prior to the visit. The entrance ticket into the castle is valid for a guided tour of the castle at a particular time, and the tour begin punctually. So please allow for sufficient time to reach and get up to the castle, as if you are late, you will not be able to participate in the tour. Note that during high season, entrance tickets for a particular day might be sold out therefor it is recommended to reserve your tickets in advance.

The bus will drop off just downhill from the ticket center, where you will walk through the reserved lane to pick up your tickets and the tickets must be collected before 12:55 pm local time.

There were several routes that one could take to visit the castles: 1) By walk following the signs (approximately 40minutes from ticket center to the Neuschwanstein Castle, 2) By taking a bus which you could choose either a 1-way uphill (1.80 Euro) or a 1-way downhill (1.00 Euro) both at the Marienbrucke (beautiful cantilever bridge) or a round trip (2.60 Euro), 3) By horse carriage (Start: infront of Hotel Muller, stops below the Neuschwanstein Castle) which runs throughout the year, cost of 1-way uphill (6.00 Euro) or a 1-way downhill (3.00 Euro) . We choose to take the bus for a 1-way up and slowly make our way down. The small shed in the picture below is the queue for the bus.

We alighted and started our journey down.

As we walked along, we were lost for words by the breathtaking landscape that surrounded us.

There is another castle next to the Neuschwanstein Castle which is the Hohenschwangau Castle but we did not visit.

After visiting Neuschwanstein Castle, we headed to Fussen town.

We end off our day with a sumptuous dinner at Augustiner Bierhalle where there are a variety of delicious food and friendly locals inviting us to join in their tables.
